No one involved with this project can assume any responsibility for actions taken by those who are foolish enough to experiment with the extremely dangerous devices and processes which are described herein. The purpose of this exercise is not to explain how to construct a safe weapon; THIS IS NOT A SAFE WEAPON!. The purpose is to demonstrate how easily a very dangerous and effective weapon can be constructed, so that those in positions of authority will not be deceived into presuming they can legislate the possession of any such weapons away from ctizens who have even the most rudimentary equipment and skills. Releasing this information is an exercise of free political speech -- with the intent that public policy makers will not take us in a direction which is potentially greatly more dangerous than the devices and methods which are presented herein; The Federalist Papers explain exactly what this means. It is extremely dangerous and virtually beggs law enforcement to arrest anyone who possesses it.

Most of this hardware is available from any local home-improveument store
-- including the 3/4" x 24" water pipe (top right) and the 5" automatic punch.
The 7/8" O.D. fender washers may require a good online fastener supplier.
Light 12ga target loads are available from many sporting goods stores.
However ...
According to Texas statute:
§46.01.(16) a zip gun is "a device or combination of devices that was not
originally a firearm and is adapted to expel a projectile through a smooth-bore
barrel by using the energy generated by an explosion or burning substance."
§46.05 of the Texas Penal Code it is a crime to intentionally or knowingly
possess, manufacture, transport, repair or sell a zip gun. §46.05(a)(9).

Single-shot DIY 12 Gauge “Liberator” Shotgun
Recently plans for an STL plastic “Liberator,” (a DIY gun) have been in the press. The point of that design effort was to demonstrate how easily such guns could be built, and to assure patriots that their 2nd Amendment rights were not in any real danger of being revoked.
On this webpage, a much simpler design is presented: Almost all of the required parts can be purchased locally “over-the-counter” (from any major home-improvement store); the required skill level, and the invested time and cost, to build it are absolutely minimal; and the result is a much-more-effective weapon.
Parts:
External parts (see above, left-to-right, starting from top row):
1) Handle/trigger: 3/4 inch water-pipe 3-way “T” coupling.
2) Hammer guide: 3.5 inch length x 1/2 inch water-pipe nipple.
3) Receiver: 3/4 inch-to-1/2 inch water-pipe coupling.
4) Barrel: 24 inch length x 3/4 inch water pipe (welded/not rolled; don‘t scrimp on the quality! And don’t make it too short; the recoil mass is very important -- besides the probable breaking of additional laws). Because of production variation, you may need to pick through a few pipes to find one that will easily fit around a shotgun shell; otherwise you might have to file the hole out a little bit.
Internal parts (continuing from lower left, above -- or the top left below):
5) Hammer/firing-pin: Fairly common five-inch-long automatic center punch (with built-in spring and hammer).
You should experiment with this punch by punching little dimples into one of the the 3/8" washers. Place the washer on a firm, flat, surface and rest the point of the punch on the top surface of the washer. Press the punch's handle down firmly, compressing it's spring, until the punch "snaps" -- hammering a little dimple into the washer. Do this until you are comfortable with how the punch works.
6-8) Three spacers: 3/8" I.D. x 7/8" O.D. washers (common washers for 5/16" bolts).
9-11) Three firing-pin guides: 3/16" I.D. x 7/8 O.D. fender washers (for 5/32" bolts).
(These washers are slightly harder to locate; you may need to order from an online hardware/fastener supplier.)
12) 12ga shotgun shell: Use very light birdshot or target loads (don’t overdo it!).
Assembly:
A) Hold the barrel (4) vertically and slide the shell (12) into top end of barrel.
(If one end of the pipe fits too tightly, try the other end.)
B) Stack the three fender washers (9-11) on top of the shell.
C) Stack the three 3/8 washers (6-8) on top of the fender washers.
D) Carefully slide the 3/4 inch end (wide end) of the coupling (3) over the six washers and thread it onto the barrel (4) snugly.
No tools should be necessary. The washers shouldn't rattle. If they rattle, add an additional washer, one at a time, until they are held firmly in place.
E) Thread the 1/2 inch nipple (2) snugly into the 1/2 inch end of the coupling (3).
!! WARNING: before proceeding, be fully aware that you are now holding a loaded
and extremely dangerous weapon; and that your hand will be on the trigger !!
!! Do not take these steps until you are actually ready to fire !!
!! Always keep this loaded gun pointed in a safe direction !!
!! Be sure you know what's behind your target; even target loads go through walls !!
!! Also, be aware that a shotgun shell produces much greater pressure than common
water pipe is designed to hold. There is no promise that it won't simply explode. !!
Final Assembly and Firing: (Do not perform these steps until you are actually ready to fire.)
F) Slowly and Carefully slide the automatic center punch (5), point first, into the nipple (2), then through the center holes of the six washers (6-8 & 9-11). Stop
when the point Reaches the primer. Do not experiment, at this time, with compressing the punch's internal hammer spring; you already know what it does, and now is no longer the right time to experiment. If the fender washers (9-11) are not lined up well enough, you may need to loosen the coupling (3) a little so the washers can line up as you carefully slide the punch (5) through them; then re-tighten the coupling.
G) Carefully aim the weapon at a safe target; hold the barrel (4) firmly with one hand (safely away from the end of the barrel that blows fingers off), while you use the other hand to guide the side hole of the 3-way “T” coupling (1) carefully over the punch (5) and nipple (2); keep your fingers where they won't get pinched between the "T" handle (1) and the rest of the gun, and prepare for recoil; then fire the weapon by pressing slowly, but firmly, forward on the “T” (1), compressing the center punch until it suddenly fires (without any warning).
It is extremely dangerous and virtually beggs law enforcement to arrest anyone who possesses it.
